The high point of this one might be Tenor Saw's "Ring the Alarm," a chanting bit of hypnotic throb sure to raise the hackles on your neck. The only quibble, and it is a minor one, is the choice of including "Funky Kingston" by Toots & the Maytals. It's a great song to be sure, but one that anybody with a passing interest in reggae has likely heard, and a song whose vibe is clearly at odds with the tracks that surround it. It's certainly no big deal, and doesn't detract from one's enjoyment, but its inclusion amongst a bunch of tracks the casual listener would not have been familiar with is odd. No matter -- if you're looking for a primer on the music of the island, you could do worse than buying every one of the records in this series.
