All three members attended and met at Wanganui Boys College, where as a band they defiently and actively avoided the Smokefree Rockquest, claiming it was a one-hit-wonder-production-device. However the group gathered a cult following after playing the 1996 local band showcase 'Rock It Town' where their quirky post-punk resonated with the young alternative sub-cultures. At this time the boys were playing frequent shows at a local underground haunt known as 'Raewins Fence' (rip). In 1997 Geoff Brown was head-hunted to join the steadily touring pop-punk outfit 'Grampire'. Kenji and Stan continued to play sporadically until calling it quits at the end of 2005. Both began to study Fine Art at Quay School of the Arts in 2006 where they met fellow art students Dustin Rogers and Captain Rushworth. The four instantly clicked with each other and through a series of collaborative projects a new monster of rock was born in the form of 'A Forest Fires, The Bamboo Shoots', a protoexperimental post-punk musical underbelly. The band has been focusing on a new art, they call non-playing, in order to produce a completly fresh musical aesthetic. As the efforts of the band spilled out of class time and into extended projects, they began to build up a steady following, and a demo recording of their soon to be released ep. This demo found its way into the hands of producer Peter Kevin who loved what he heard, and was excited about it enough to re-record the four track album at his Bell St Studio. Kevin then passed the album over to long-time friend and head of And/Or Die Records, Very Very Blazing. The album is available to listen to now on myspace.com
