The son of a Hispanic Mother and East African/Arabic father, he found his identity and security in his diversity. Abbas has had no shortage of influences to draw from in his rich cultural background, bringing a depth to his music and lyrics that far belies his 19 years.
He started out writing songs on his own and recording in the studio at 12 years old. Although having to use a fake id to get in, Abbas is a regular in the live music scene. He also began writing and recording demos for other artists and working with well known hip hop based producers.
While holding down as many as four part-time jobs at a time, school, working other odd gigs and pursuing music, Abbas gained invaluable experience.
He went on the grind doing whatever it took to get him music out there, and being a true D.I.Y artist became a jack of all trades developing the skills necessary for people to take notice.
In the fall of 2008, Abbas caught the attention of mega producer/songwriter Linda Perry and signed a development deal with Custard/Universal Records. During that time he penned songs with numerous well-known writers/producers including Boots Ottestad, Sam Bisbee, Wes Hutchinson, Rosi Golan, Martin Doc McKinney and Linda Perry.
Upon expiration of the deal with Custard, Abbas returned to NC, where he incorporated his experiences of the last few years in a series of new songs, resulting in a unique and fresh sound, with an immediacy and honesty too often missing in today's music.
Abbas is a seasoned live performer whose poise and confidence would seem at odds with his youth. He wants to keep things simple: "I'm interested in making music that people can relate to and that is real" And real is just what Abbas is. His skilled blending of the old school with the new promises great things for the future.
