They were put together to back up various singers with live shows and/or album production. The name RainDoggs comes from Tom Wait’s description of all the dogs that got caught in the rain and lost their way home. “The way the music business is today, we’re all a pack of lost doggs trying to find our way” So the name just made sense, plus most of them met in a Tom Waits tribute band.
Beyond Tom Waits, their influences include Snoop Dogg (yes, that’s where the name comes from) Dap-Kings, The Heavy, The Rolling Stones, The Black Keys, Portishead, Gogol Bordello, Faces, Tom Petty, ADELE, The Budos Band, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, John Mellencamp and so much more, The RainDoggs create a unique new sound that mixes R&B/Soul & Blues with a David Lynch movie.
Their debut album, “Red to Black” with Texas Folk/Blues Singer Ali Holder is filled with complimentary horn arrangements, featuring Brent Cagle (The Jake Levinson Band) on Sax and Ali’s former Trumpet player Michael Prohaska (Ali Holder and Train Robbin’ Whiskey) mixed with a classic approach of “Rhythm/Lead” guitar Duo with Rob Huntley & Stewart Cundy (John Deery Band).
The title of the album was inspired by various relationships and the journey made from meeting, falling in love to breaking up. The Playa’s can be found playing with: 1.6 Band, Beyond, Ali Holder & The Broken Hearted, Ali Holder and Train Robbin’ Whiskey, Shannon Hudson, The Great Nostalgic, The Jake Levinson Band, Twenty Four Thousand Dollars, John Deery Band, Silver Convention, Wake Eastman, Raquel Orsini, Hank T. Hunt, Daniel Link & Ron Rogers.
