Amanda grew up on her family farm but her father was a saxophonist and pianist. She started singing in her church choir when she was just three years old and first gained prominence as a country singer at the 1994 Dauphin CountryFest. In 1999, she was signed to Warner Music Canada and her first self-titled CD was released in 2000. This album prompted single "Black is Black" which quickly became a hit on country radio and television. She gained fame in the United States when Country Music Television started to air some of her videos. She also won a Juno Award for Best New Solo Artist.
After a few years away from the spotlight, Amanda came back in 2004 not only as a beautiful young woman now in her 20s, but with a new, more adult pop sound. Her single, Paper Rain, from Women and Songs, Vol. 8 reached #1 on the Canadian Top 40 chart. On March 8, 2005, her sophomore CD, Chasing the Sky, was released. It included "Paper Rain" and follow up singles "Homeless Heart" and "She'll Get Over It". On this disc, Amanda took more charge of what she sings, having co-written over half of the songs.
Amanda performed on July 1, 2005 as part of the Canada Day celebrations, taking place on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. In the summer of 2005 she toured Canada with fellow female Canadian singers Keshia Chante, Christine Evans and Cassie Steele. In December 2005 she was a part of the Holiday Train cross-Canada tour along with Wayne Ronstad and the Moffats.
Amanda is now a featured singer in the traveling Cirque du soleil arena show called Delirium, touring Canada and the United States.
