on Hey Beauty I Don't Care

I like how the phrases are cut by interjections. So really it's "I don't care ... what you wear". And then at the end the long idea "If you're living in the mirror of your own mind, you're princess of a land of another kind" is spliced with the "I don't care ... what you wear," which itself is spliced with the interjections of "Hey, Beauty." Nice architecture there.

I also like how the subject is beauty, but it's also addressing 'you' with the call-name "Beauty." Then they play with the ambiguity in the breakdown: "Look at you, Beauty! Lookin' at you, Beauty, I see what you see too, Beauty," could also be read as "Look at you, Beauty! Lookin' at you, Beauty, I see what you see too: beauty." ... Since it's not written down, it can be both things. "I see what you see, my dear" could also be "I see what you see, and that is beauty."

The whole thing is a clever, nuanced take on the subject of surface vs substance. As with the 2023 movie, the Barbie brand opts to claim that it doesn't have to be "vs" — it can be surface *and* substance. Fun to play with the surface, and see the substance of the person you see.

My transcription:

-----------------

Do ya feel like a rhinestone? Would ya like a pretty bow-uh-oh?
Do ya feel like a diamond in the rough or maybe you don't know?
So, get a little laughter, and a bit of oh-uh-oh
Mix it with a pinch of something from your favorite show.

Paint a Botticelli, with an Einstein mind
Go with Galileo, in the Van Gogh kind
Hold your beauty baby in the words you say.
Live your beauty baby in your very own way.

Hey, Beauty — I don't care
Hey, Beauty — what you wear
Hey, Beauty — I don't care:
If you're living in the mirror of your own mind,
You're princess of a land of another kind.
If you're living in the mirror of your own mind,
You're princess of a land of another kind
Huh-hey, Beauty

  (Ahhh — princess)
Oh — Look at you, Beauty
  (Ahhh)
Oh — How do ya feel now?
  (Ahhh — princess)
Oh — Lookin' at you, Beauty,
  (Ahhh)
I see what you see too: beauty
  (Ahhh)
Hey, Beauty

(Do ya feel like a rhinestone?)
Hey, Beauty — I don't care
(Do ya feel like a diamond?)
Hey, Beauty — what you wear
(Do ya feel like a rhinestone?)
Hey, Beauty — I don't care:
If you're living in the mirror of your own mind...

(Do ya feel like a rhinestone?)
Hey, Beauty — I don't care
(Do ya feel like a diamond?)
Hey, Beauty — what you wear
(Do ya feel like a rhinestone?)
Hey, Beauty — I don't care
...you're a princess of a land of another kind

on Hey Beauty I Don't Care

Hey beauty, I don't care.
Hey beauty, what you wear?

Seems like a detail, but there shouldn't be a question mark, because "Hey, Beauty" is the interjection, and the complete thought is " ... I don't care ... what you wear ..."

on Hey Beauty I Don't Care

Look at you beauty,
I see one and you see two.
Beauty...Hey, beauty...

Should be :

Lookin' at you, Beauty,
I see what you see too: beauty

Quite a powerful and meaningful lyric there.
