After the death of his father, he had to live at his uncle's house from where he ran away to work later with Adama Drame and Yussuf Kante in the Ivory Coast. He lived then at Ferkessedougou in the North of Ivory Coast and worked as solo-drummer for traditional events, accompaniing occasionally Griot-singer Sali Sidibe and was musical leader of the local dance company which took him along for his first trip to Europe touring in France. He met German flutist Dieter Weberpals in 1987 at Ferkessedougou and joined him for a first tour in Germany with Argile & African Heat in 1988. He worked with the Argile-Band until 1998 and recorded 4 CDs with them. He then worked as a freelancing artist for several percussion and dance groups. Following a major brain hemorrhage in 2001, Barry Sangare remained partially paralyzed and could play no longer his fine djembe grooves and n'goni melodies. Barry Sangare died at Hamburg, August 18th, 2008 - his music is unforgotten!
