Space Song
Beach House Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It was late at night
You held on tight
From an empty seat
A flash of light

It will take a while
To make you smile
Somewhere in these eyes
I'm on your side

You wide-eyed girls
You get it right

Fall back into place
Fall back into place

Tender is the night
For a broken heart
Who will dry your eyes
When it falls apart?

What makes this fragile world go 'round?
Were you ever lost?
Was she ever found?

Somewhere in these eyes

Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Beach House's Space Song are full of emotion and introspection. The opening lines set the scene for a tender moment late at night, with the singer being held tightly by someone. It is clear that there is a sense of longing and uncertainty in the air, as symbolized by the "empty seat" and "flash of light." The chorus then speaks to the struggle to make the person smile, and the singer's desire to be on their side.

The second verse continues with a reference to F. Scott Fitzgerald's Tender is the Night, and the pain of a broken heart. The question of what makes the world go 'round is a universal one, and the songwriter asks it in the context of trying to understand love and the nature of relationships. The repeated refrain of "fall back into place" speaks to the cyclical nature of life, where things may seem to fall apart but eventually come back together.

on Beyond Love

My ears may be blocked but I don't hear: "You wanted to find Elvis and I didn't understand". I hear that: ''You wanted to find ever since I didn't understand''. Of course, I only listened to or read 6 or 7 interviews with Alex and Victoria: that's not a lot. However, I never heard Victoria or Alex talk about Elvis. Alex named the Beatles, Dylan, Jaco Pastorius and Led Zeppelin. As for Victoria, she spoke more of Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin because of their voices. She underlined that it was through this particular musical instrument that is the voice - this is, in fact, part of the person - that they entered into music. I would say, in conclusion, that "Beyond love" is the only song where a musician is named - if, of course, those who hear Elvis in the song are right.
Sorry if maybe "my" English hurts your ears. But I live in the south of Belgium where French is spoken. In the north of the country, people speak Dutch. It was on the radio, Wednesday 01/06/2022 that I heard for the first time the name of the group and 1 minute of one of their songs. Since then - I'm retired - I've been doing just that: listening to this amazing band.. love at first sight.. what talent and charisma, Alex and Victoria..
