Vrijgezel

The song "Vrijgezel" by Benny Neyman tells the story of a bachelor who is perceived by society as lonely and pitiful. Despite living alone and not having a family or spouse, the bachelor revels in his freedom and independence. The lyrics highlight the misconceptions surrounding singlehood, as the bachelor is shown enjoying his life without the responsibilities and restrictions that come with marriage or a committed relationship.
The first verse describes the bachelor's solitary lifestyle, including the fact that he eats from a vending machine and his apartment is probably messy because no one is waiting for him when he comes home. The second verse recounts his failed attempt at marriage and how he learned from that mistake. The chorus emphasizes how the bachelor only goes to bed after he has enjoyed his freedom to the fullest and experienced everything he wanted to, allowing him to truly appreciate his life.
The lyrics of "Vrijgezel" create a positive image of being single, encouraging listeners to appreciate the freedom and independence that comes with it, instead of just seeing it as a negative or pitiful situation. The song highlights how societal norms and expectations can affect our perception of individuals who choose to remain single, without understanding the value and benefits of this lifestyle.
