Me and Mrs. Jones
Billy Paul Lyrics

Me and Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now

We meet every day at the same café
Six-thirty and no one knows she'll be there
Holding hands, making all kinds of plans
While the jukebox plays our favorite songs

Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones
Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now

We gotta be extra careful
That we don't build our hopes up too high
'Cause she's got her own obligations
And so, and so do I

Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones
Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now

Well, it's time for us to be leaving
It hurts so much, it hurts so much inside
Now she'll go her way and I'll go mine
Tomorrow we'll meet
The same place, the same time

Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones
Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin' on (thing)
We gotta be extra careful (goin' on)
We can't afford to build our hopes up too high
I wanna meet (thing) and talk with you
At the same place (goin' on), the same café, the same time
And we gonna hold hands like we used to
We gonna talk it over, talk it over
(Thing) we know, they know (goin' on), and you know
And I know that it was wrong
But our thing is strong, we gotta let 'em know now
That we got a thing going on, a thing going on

Funny story about this song. I’m 28 and had never heard it…I work in a nursing home for people with Dementia/Alzheimer’s and one day this came on. EVERYONE (who was able to stand up) started moving and grooving….all these old people were just vibing to the music. It was insane. They were dancing like nobody was watching. It felt like time stood still for a moment. One lady put her hand out to me, and we danced together to this. Incredible song.

@Sharon Smith In my mind, the day the music died was the day the needle dropped onto Sugar Hill Gang. Since then, is all been Down Hill, Gang. Growing up with Yesterday and Wild Horses and everything in the Motown catalog, I am flabbergasted that the big deal in today's music is a girl with a lousy voice and little to say about anything other than all her Kleenex boyfriends. Did I mention What's Going On? Or Ain't No Mountain (second time around)? Music in today's America has reached the trash heap. Nothing sings, to me. Does crap sing to you? Thank gawd for all my years of opening nights for the new Sondheim. He weren't rock n roll, but he could have been if it was warranted. Maybe his genius ruined that other crap for me. I hate that junk and I hate the unambitious crowd who can't produce anything newer than Sugar Hill Gang.
