Me and Mrs. Jones
Billy Paul Lyrics

Me and Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now

We meet every day at the same café
Six-thirty and no one knows she'll be there
Holding hands, making all kinds of plans
While the jukebox plays our favorite songs

Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones
Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now

We gotta be extra careful
That we don't build our hopes up too high
'Cause she's got her own obligations
And so, and so do I

Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones
Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now

Well, it's time for us to be leaving
It hurts so much, it hurts so much inside
Now she'll go her way and I'll go mine
Tomorrow we'll meet
The same place, the same time

Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones
Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin' on (thing)
We gotta be extra careful (goin' on)
We can't afford to build our hopes up too high
I wanna meet (thing) and talk with you
At the same place (goin' on), the same café, the same time
And we gonna hold hands like we used to
We gonna talk it over, talk it over
(Thing) we know, they know (goin' on), and you know
And I know that it was wrong
But our thing is strong, we gotta let 'em know now
That we got a thing going on, a thing going on

Funny story about this song. I’m 28 and had never heard it…I work in a nursing home for people with Dementia/Alzheimer’s and one day this came on. EVERYONE (who was able to stand up) started moving and grooving….all these old people were just vibing to the music. It was insane. They were dancing like nobody was watching. It felt like time stood still for a moment. One lady put her hand out to me, and we danced together to this. Incredible song.

Sarah Lynn ,
Loved your story. I’m 32. First heard it on a loooong drive while moving across the country at 23.
It’s been a favorite ever since but hilarious cause like many things I play(of alllll genres literally ) people tell me “you don’t know nothin bout that” I always smile and basically say “heyy now I know a liiittle something. And I throw up the fist ✊🏽. 😂
lol.
No but really.
I know I always was a rare breed when I was younger but it’s the most refreshing to see others breaking the molds so to speak

That's a beautiful story to tell! I am an RNBSN and have worked with those with dementia/alzheimer's and I understand. Nice to hear you brought some happiness in their lives even if was for a short time. I request this song every week on my local radio station CLassic Hits 106 sometimes twice a week! Keep up the great job!

When I worked in a nursing home the same thing happened with me. It's beautiful just to see people get up and do their thing

Beyond compare. A masterpiece. I was 20 when this came out in LA. I'm 70 now. The emotions have not changed on little bit.
