Lie
Black Light Burns Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning

I'm living a lie
And it's not the best thing for me
But anyone and everyone is gonna hear another story
I'm building a house
Of murderous intention
To keep it all from coming down
I've gotta focus my attention
Cause confidence is key
When violating trust
I'm making sure that I believe
I'm doing what I must
Which is attempting to kill
The little boy inside
But as hard as I try
The child will not die

Now I'm burning alive, just like you
Now I'm burning alive, just like you

I'm irrelevant
And I'm living down in the shit
I follow these pigs around
But I never get used to it
'Cause they keep building and building
Their feculent franchise
I wish I could see this filth
Through someone else's eyes
Cause ignorance was bliss
But now I must adjust
These animals, they operate
On jealousy and lust
I'm taking back what was lost
And I will not be denied
I'm crawling my way to the surface outside

Now I'm burning alive, just like you
Now I'm burning alive, just like you

Just like you
Just like you
Just like you

Now I'm burning alive, just like you
Now I'm burning alive, just like you

Now I'm burning alive, just like you (just like you)
Now I'm burning alive, just like you (just like you)

Just like you
Just like you
Just like you
Just like you
Just like you

Overall Meaning

The song “Lie” by Black Light Burns delves into themes of deceit, self-destruction, and destroying one’s own innocence. The first verse of the song is filled with self-awareness and the acknowledgement of a “lie” that the protagonist has been living. He admits that it’s not the best thing for him and is aware that others will hear a different story. He then goes on to describe himself as building a “house of murderous intention” to keep everything from falling apart, but realizes he needs to focus his attention and find confidence in his actions. Allowing himself to violate trust, he attempts to kill the “little boy inside” of him but struggles to do so successfully.

The second verse of the song describes the protagonist feeling irrelevant and living in a state of “shit,” following people he refers to as “pigs” around, constantly disgusted by what he sees. Though he wishes he could see that environment through someone else’s eyes, he’s become aware of the true nature of those people and their operating systems. To take back what he has lost, he is determined to climb his way out of his current state of despair, ignoring any denials he may face while getting his life back on track.

Overall, the song seems to represent someone who is struggling with their own inner demons and wrestling with the idea of destroying their own innocence. The lyrics offer a rather intense and depressing commentary on how difficult it can be to keep oneself above the fray of the negative forces that exist within oneself and the world.

I like how the drummer plays his drums.

You do know that Lohner was only involved with the writing/recording of The Fragile, right? And even with that his involvement wasn't THAT massive. I think the shift in the sound of With Teeth was a product of Trent's recent sobriety more than anything else (I know from experience, that change shows in your music). And while Wes IS an important part of LB, we learned on The Unquestionable Truth (which lacked John Otto on drums) that the band really requires all their members to work.

Against The Odds

these guys rocks !!!

Zadok Samson

wes borland is absolutely the best!
