Let's Think About Living
Bob Luman Lyrics

In every other song that I've heard lately
Some fellow gets shot
And his baby and his best friend both die with him
As likely as not
In half of the other songs
Some Cat's crying or ready to die
We've lost most of our happy people
And I'm wondering why.

[Chorus:]
Let's think about living
Let's think about loving
Let's think about the whoopin' and hoppin and boppin'
And the lovie, lovie dovin'
Let's forget about the whinin' and the cryin'
And the shooting and the dying
And the fellow with a switchblade knife
Let's think about living
Let's think about life.

We lost old Marty Robbins
Down in El Paso a little while back
And now Miss Patti Page or one of them
Is a-wearing black
And Cath's Clown has Don and Phil
Where they feel like a they could die
If we keep on a-losin' our singers like that
I'll be the only one you can buy'.

[Chorus]

Now, This man has it right. Think about living, I'm tired of dying.

Riley

I'm 16 and I like this song. Including a measure of other country and quite a bit if other songs like rock and so forth. But, in all deeds, let it NEVER, ever, ever be pop! I absolutely hate pop singers and therefore hate pop for now on.

This song however makes me happy, short and sweet is my style.

see my earlier post...This song was such a smash hit back in the day...

Patti Page "wearing black" refers to her hit "One Of Us (Will Weep Tonight)".

Tony G. Pizza

Favorite line: "If we keep losing our singers like that, I'll be the only one you can buy."

Jack Puskar

And his inflection on that line too!

Ronald Vaughan

Perfect bookend for ENDLESS SLEEP (Jody Reynolds). ANTI-tragedy songs!!

On this day in 1960 {September 5th} Bob Luman performed "Let's Think About Livin'"* on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand"...
And on that very same day the song entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #87, seven weeks later on October 24th it would peak at #7 {for 1 week} and it stayed on the chart for 14 weeks...
The song was his only Top 100 record, but between 1960 and 1978 he had thirty-nine records make Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart...
Sadly, Robert Glynn 'Bob' Luman passed away on December 27th, 1978 at the young age of 41 {pneumonia}...
May he R.I.P.
* Fellow Warner Brothers' label-mates, the Everly Brothers, played guitars on "Let's Think About Livin'"...
