He studied at Fundacao das Artes de Sao Caetano, at Instituto de Musica do Planalto and at the Unesp College, where he studied composition and conducting.
At the end of the seventies, he played with Arrigo Barnabe and Itamar Assuncao at the Culture University Festival, where Arrigo Barnabe was the winner with the music "Diversoes Eletronicas". In 1980, he played and recorded with Elis Regina at the show "Saudades do Brasil". After that record, his career as an instrumentalist significantly intensified, having played with Rita Lee, Ney Matogrosso, Roberto Carlos, and others.
In 1982, he founded the Metalurgia Band, which recorded a record that was considered the best instrumental of the year. In 1985, he launched his first solo LP. Nowadays, his discography has the following records: "Lixo Atomico", "Sonho de um Anarquista", "Concerto para Trombone Quebrado", "Abruxa-te", "Aqui Jazz Brasil", "Ladrao de Trombone", and the CDs "Bem Dito", "Samba de Zambas" and "Acid Samba" (the latter two of them made in Switzerland). He also recorded the CD "Tributo a Pixinguinha" in 1997, with which he traveled in a tour all over Europe celebrating the 100 years of Pixinguinha. In 2004, he launched "Cacique Cantareira" and "Antologia da Cancao Brasileira - vol. 1", with Lea Freire, by the Maritaca label.
Bocato also participated in several recordings of artists such as Na Ozzetti, Ze Miguel Wisnick, Gal Costa, Edson Cordeiro, Zeca Baleiro, Chico Cesar, Celso Viafora, Carlinhos Brown, Nacao Zumbi, Fala Mansa, Pavilhao 9 and Art Popular, among others.
In 1998, he took another tour in Europe with his Banda and participated in the Sharp Award as the Best Adapter due to his CD "Tributo a Pixinguinha". In 1999, living in Europe, he attended the Montreaux Festival, playing the musics of his CD "Acid Samba" in Switzerland. In 2003, he attended the Moscow Festival with his band and accompanying Leny de Andrade and Joao Donato. In 2004, he participated in the Faustao TV Show band, at Globo TV Network, and holds shows throughout Brazil of his CD "Antologia da Cancao Brasileira - vol. 1".
