Bottle of Evil is a musical project between two Lanarkshire musicians, Derek Bates (Evil Hand) and Steven McGilvary (Bottle of Steven). They have both been writing and performing with their own solo projects for many years, and Derek with his previous group, shoegaze noisters Genaro.
This is the latest outing from them both and draws from many influences, whilst still maintaining its own unique sound, with elements of electro-acoustic, shoegaze, folk, ambient, soundtrack and alternative indie.
They teamed up early 2009 and were well recieved with their first few tracks, gaining play on the Glasgow Podcart and Define Pop on Subcity Radio. They were creating some interesting music and decided to continue doing so. This has reached the completion of their 11 track debut, released independently on physical format and for download at iTunes, Amazon.mp3, Bandcamp and eMusic.
The album moves from otherworldly scores - to stripped acoustics - to layers of harmony, all whilst maintaining a cohesive sense of melody. Heavily fx driven at points, the music drifts back and forth between walls of swirling noise and the underpinning beats and emotive harmonies.
"Think Brian Eno meeting The Beach Boys - hang on that's already been done with Animal Collective. Well it's actually a bit like a Scottish Animal Collective - no bad thing." MyDadRocks-unsigned acts
"Hailing from Lanarkshire the duo make shoegaze of the dream-pop variety. With delicate melodies often erupting into noise-fueled crescendos. A pleasant surprise from the initial fear of another Biffy sound-a-like or Screamo band which I garnered from their name.." HaveFunAtDinner"
