Bread
Bread was a 1970s rock and roll band from Los Angeles, California. They are a prime example of what later was labeled as "soft rock."
David Gates (guitar, keyboards, bass and vocals) and Jimmy Griffin (guitar and vocals) formed the group in 1968, adding Robb Royer (guitar, bass and vocals of Pleasure Faire) before signing to Elektra Records. Bread, the band's debut album as a trio, was a failure. The band became a quartet beginning with their second album, On The Waters, bringing in Mike Botts as permanent drummer. This time their efforts quickly established Bread as a major act, hitting the mainstream with the #1 hit "Make It With You" in 1970. Bread began touring and recording the 1971 album titled Manna, which included their most enduring hit, "If."
Royer left the group after three albums to pursue other interests. He was replaced by Larry Knechtel (keyboards, bass, guitar, harmonica), a top session player from the Los Angeles scene. Knechtel's credits included records by Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys, The Mamas and the Papas, The Monkees, Jan and Dean, Johnny Rivers and Simon & Garfunkel. In 1972 Bread released the highly successful album titled Baby I'm-a Want You, followed by another hit album, Guitar Man. Tensions existed between Gates and Griffin, however. Elektra had been invariably choosing Gates' songs for the A-sides of the singles; Griffin felt that the singles should have been split between the two, however.
By 1973 the band members sensed that they had taken Bread as far as they could, so they disbanded. Gates and Griffin then began solo careers, with mixed results. After reuniting in 1976, Bread released the album Lost Without Your Love in January 1977. The title track was the band's last top-ten hit, peaking at number 9 on the singles chart. The comeback album was also RIAA-certified Gold®.

Make It With You
Bread Lyrics
Hey have you ever tried
Really reaching out for the other side?
I may be climbing on rainbows
But baby, here goes
Dreams are for those who sleep
Life is for us to keep
And if you're wondering what this song is leading to,
I want to make it with you
I really think that we could make it, girl
Though you don't know me well
And every little thing only time will tell
If you believe the things that I do,
And we'll see it through
Life can be short or long
Love can be right or wrong
And if I chose the one I'd like to help me through
I'd like to make it with you
I really think that we could make it, girl
Baby you know that dreams there for those who sleep
Life is for us to keep
And if I chose the one I'd like to help me through
I'd like to make it with you
I really think that we could make it, girl

Memories of being 6 years years old in 1970 in my parents old house.
My mum and dad were very unhappy with each other and would divorce two very long years later.
I remember the weather always seemed better and the days lasted longer.
My dad was friends with a guy named George and his wife Barbara( who he seduced behind George's back) and we went to their house that year.
They'd had a party the night before and there were bottles and glasses all over a huge glass table in the lounge.
George and Barbara were very well to do and their house was quite something, I think my father wanted the same kind of place for himself, sadly we weren't part of the plan.
He asked Barbara to run away with him, and when he went to collect her, she wouldn't leave her children, despite my dad's insistence.
I always respected her for that, she thought that being a mother was more important than being my dad's mistress.
RIP Barbara,
Love Euan XX.

Yep it's a different time. Today the music is terrible, people are divided, and everyone seems to be suffering with mental health. And don't even get me started with the cancel culture.

I'm in my mid 20s. I grew up listening to Bread, Chicago, the Beatles, the Eagles, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, the Doobie Brothers, the list goes on. Music from the 70s makes me feel at home. I feel more connected to people of other generations than my own in part because of it. I will always love this music
