First Day of My Life
Bright Eyes Lyrics

This is the first day of my life
Swear I was born right in the doorway
I went out in the rain, suddenly everything changed
They're spreading blankets on the beach

Yours was the first face that I saw
I think I was blind before I met you
And I don't know where I am, I don't know where I've been
But I know where I want to go

And so I thought I'd let you know
Yeah, these things take forever, I especially am slow
But I realized that I need you
And I wondered if I could come home

Remember the time you drove all night
Just to meet me in the morning?
And I thought it was strange, you said everything changed
You felt as if you'd just woke up

And you said
"This is the first day of my life
I'm glad I didn't die before I met you
But now I don't care, I could go anywhere with you
And I'd probably be happy"

So if you wanna be with me
With these things there's no telling
We just have to wait and see
But I'd rather be working for a paycheck
Than waiting to win the lottery, ah-ha, mm-hmm

Besides, maybe this time is different
I mean, I really think you like me

The best line is "I'd rather be working for a paycheck than waiting to win the lottery." Everyone who believes in the crap about "soulmates" should keep this line in mind - there isn't one perfect person out there for you, with whom you will be forever happy with no problems. Love is hard work; it's sometimes putting your own feelings aside for the sake of the one you love, it's even (God forbid) being willing to change. Don't stick around in a toxic relationship, of course, but don't bail at the first problem. This is advice from someone who's been married since 1981.

Beautiful.

Oh GFY you self-satisfied, self-righteous prick. Literally NOBODY asked for your Boomer advice. But like a true Boomer, your sense of entitlement knows no bounds.

Eternal advice well spoken.

@Mary H They are not dead Mary, you will have to reinvent yourself. Both of you. A child requires a lot of attention and energy and at moments you will feel absolutely overwhelmed and drained. That's where the reinventing comes to play. As long as there is love, anything can be build, but it has to be as a team, as a couple, with creativity and understanding it will be far from perfect. Now I'm not sure I'm talking to you or to myself =)

@gabiluch87 I really like your framing, and I think it adds to the original comment.
Your soulmate is not necessarily the idealised rom-com instant or always perfect fit, but they're the person who will work through it with you so you can keep making happy memories despite anything else.
I'm sorry to hear you lost your soulmate prematurely, but it sounds like you've got a lot of fond memories and I can only hope people can find a similar connection in their lives.
Take care, and keep on keeping on :)

When I was in middle/ high school, I had his pictures on my binders, no one ever knew who he was. I always wished I had a friend.
