Produced by guitarist Rob Seals.
Steven Jackson was born in Alabama, lived in Georgia, South Carolina & Nashville, TN. That means no matter how much he tried to fool himself into thinking he could write angsty punk music (began playing Ramones & Replacements in biker bars at 15), or Jam-funk (played bass in Taylor Hicks' band while in college at Auburn University) - - there was no way of escaping the folk-country influences of His South.
On Jackson's 2001 "Boxfan," Paste Magazine declared: "Jackson writes words more beautiful, evocative & true than you could ever find yourself."
Brighter Things was born after a 6-year hiatus from touring that Jackson says "allowed me to focus on PURE writing. No matter what anyone says, if you're standing on stage night after night, you start to wonder what your audience will think - even while you are writing a song. In 2004, I realized that wasn't fair to my writing - or my fans. It just dumbed the whole process & output down. BRIGHTER THINGS is the result of taking all those outside influences away. It is the most honest thing I can imagine."
