The show's title comes from a running joke in Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse movies in which Flanagan's character, Fanboy, yells "Tell 'em, Steve-Dave!" at Johnson's character, Steve-Dave. According to Johnson, the character of Steve-Dave is based on the owner of a comic book store that Smith, Johnson, and Flanagan once frequented; "Walter could never remember if the guy's name was actually Steve or Dave. So the name Steve-Dave was coined.
Bryan Johnson (nicknamed "Bry") is a writer, actor and director associated with Kevin Smith and the "View Askew-niverse". He is best-known by his appearances in Smith's New Jersey films as comic book fan Steve-Dave Pulasti. Way back Bry managed "Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash West" in the Westwood area of Los Angeles, California. The Stash West opened in 2004 and closed in October 2007.

Q is one of four members of the comedy group The Tenderloins the other three being Joe Gatto, James "Murr" Murray and Sal Vulcano.
