If This Country Still Had Balls
Buddy Brown Lyrics

Strange man walks
in holdin' his gun,
kills somebody and he's on the run
Out the door and into the busy streets
Cops chase him 'round town
for an hour or two
Go back home he's on the evenin' news
They tell us its alright, we got him in custody
Well maybe its me but I'm scratching my head
Wonderin' why that S.O.B. ain't dead
When everyone knows it's him why should we wait?
It's time we go back
To hangin' them high
Lets light the torches in the middle of the night
Somewhere along the way we've gotten way too soft
We don't need a jury when we seen what he's done
Just build the gallows and wait for the sun
Get the vigilantes loaded up
With justice for all
If this country still had balls
my tax money pays for nice hot meals
For a killer locked up makin' more appeals
so he can get right back out
and do it all again
Now I ain't sayin' that a man cant change
But you cant tell right from wrong these days
unless we send a message they wont forget
Its time we go back
To hangin' them high
Lets light the torches in the middle of the night
Somewhere along the way we've gotten way to soft
We don't need a jury when we've seen what he's done
Just build the gallows and wait for the sun
Get the vigilantes loaded up
With justice for all
If this country still had balls
and I know every man can be redeemed
but if he dont choose to better still have Plan B
Its time we go back
To hangin' them high
Lets light the torches in the middle of the night
Somewhere along the way we've gotten way to soft
We don't need a jury when we seen what he's done
Just build the gallows and wait for the sun
Get the vigilantes loaded up
With justice for all
If this country still had balls
If this country still had balls

He went off to Andy's house
Slipping through the backwoods quiet as a mouse
Came upon some tracks too small for Andy to make
He looked through the screen at the back porch door
And he saw Andy lying on the floor
In a puddle of blood, and he started to shake

The Georgia patrol was making their rounds
So he fired a shot, just to flag 'em down
A big-bellied sheriff grabbed his gun and said
"Why'd you do it?"

The judge said "guilty" on a make-believe trial
Slapped the sheriff on the back with a smile
Said, "Supper's waiting at home and I got to get to it"

That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia
That's the night that they hung an innocent man
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer
'Cause the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands

Let's Talk.

I do disagree and ill tell you why.

the reason america needs a justice system is to determine how long the person should go to prison for, for example:

if they guy in the beginning of the song (the guy with the gun) killed the other guy because of some feud they had going, the sentence may be shortened depending on which one of them started the feud. (aggravated homicide)

where as if the guy with the gun walked in and killed some random guy, he would have gone to prison for longer. (homicide)

the justice system figures out what happened and gets closure

Amen. I am a police officer. I go to work every day wondering why I do this to myself. We get shot at but, we better not shoot. We catch the bad guy but, they are usually back out on the street by the time our shift is over. People blame the cops for not getting the bad guy. We get them but them being released is way above any police departments pay grade. All my brothers and sisters keep coming back to work every day because we love this country and pray that this country gets its balls back. God, please let this happen soon.

@Bryce Clark exactly criminals are praised as beloved heroes it is sickening it's all fun and games until the tables turn people want to make fun of police disobey them talk down to them disrespect them but at the first sign of trouble you say jump you want them to run through hoops for you and drop everything they're doing. well you cant have it both ways either you are the solution or part of the dilemma it's not cool trendy thug or gangsta to be anti police its anti American straight up. If we are the United States of America we have to be united not half ass I'm not dismissing injustice or wrong doings because there have been no doubt overall we have to get on the same page if are to flourish as a nation

The problem with America is there are cops who agree with this song. You decided to be a cop. You are being dramatic cops rarely have to draw their guns some literally never fire a shot in the line of duty. Cops are killed but it's rare. It's far more likely civilians will get killed then cops. You are trying to create a false reality. You all are so damn simple minded.

Keep doing what you doing because we all love you brother

Man you got balls for doing a song like this. Of course there's going to be a lot of heated debate about it. I like that he has a point.

Reggie Palmer

It's not going to be any heated debate about it there is no debate it's the truth

Millies Cattailes

Yeah you're right not many people would do this song. Alan Jackson "where were you when the world stopped turning" he didn't want to record that but he finally decided to do it and it's an amazing song
