Simon's career began with a short-lived music group with her sister Lucy as The Simon Sisters. They had a minor hit in 1964 called "Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod", and made three albums together before Lucy left to get married and start a family. Later, Carly Simon collaborated with eclectic New York rockers Elephant's Memory for about six months. She also appeared in the 1971 Milos Forman movie Taking Off, playing an auditioning singer, and sang "Long Term Physical Effects", which was included in Taking Off, the 1971 soundtrack for the movie.

Simon's major breakthrough was 1972's No Secrets. The album spawned several successful singles, including Simon's biggest hit, "You're So Vain". Simon continued to produce successful albums through the 1970s and early 1980s, moving into film scores after she was dropped by her record label in 1985. She performed the main title song for the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me - "Nobody Does It Better" which was a worldwide hit in 1977.

Also love “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye” from her Film Noir CD with son Ben chiming in the last few bars. Missed seeing her in concert even though I grew up in Southern Connecticut and spent time in Cape Cod. I have no doubt she is absolutely luminous in concert. Sorry I missed her.

I believe music is timeless. Enjoy it anytime you please. It's great to discover older music. It opens up lots of new songs to listen to. I will never forget being a kid growing up in the late 70s/early 80s and discovering music from the 50s and 60s. It was great. Still is.

My mom had Carly's album NO SECRETS which features this song. I destroyed the first copy my mom had when I was a destructive "brain-damaged" child. She bought another copy in 1981 that remains intact today.

I searched for this song because I heard it from Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift, I'm just 16 years old so it's something new for me. My mom heard me playing this music and singing, then she told me my grandfather used to dance to this song when she was still a child, he died when I was 7 years old and we had no memories together except the first and last phone call we had before he died. This song made me feel connected to him at the very least, it'll always have special room in my heart.

One of things that makes this video so enjoyable is that Carly is clearly having fun performing in it .... Everybody involved in making this recording in '72 did a great job: the session musicians, the backup singers (including Mick), the audio people who mixed the song, and Carly's lyrics. I still like listening to it 40 years later, because of the craftsmanship involved in making something of this quality. And analog sounds better, for some reason ....

I remember my parents having this album in the 70s. I remember the cover distinctly. No clue at the time what it was, I was born in 1969. This is definitely a timeless classic that deserves to be re discovered by the younger generations. Carly Simon was/is a beautiful singer that had such impact on many people, myself included. I was just a bit young at the time. I remember hearing it all the time in my dad's truck that only had AM radio.

I've been a fan of this song since the first time I heard it on AM radio (!) in 1974. It's always going to be in my top 4 tunes of all time. Don't know why she chose such a strange video for the song that has pretty much become her signature or why she injected a slower version for a few seconds into the middle of it.
