She was a music major at university and gets inspiration from an eclectic variety of styles and artists, including Weird Al, John Williams, Deep Forest, Athlete, Muse, and even show tunes. There's nothing she won't try, from country to vaudeville, ambience to parody, fugues to disco.
Like so many other wizard rockers, DJ Rae's "band" started out as a joke. At the annual county fair, a certain recording business brings portable recording booths with them each year, and charges a nominal fee to use their equipment to record karaoke-style music.
Knowing she was going to the fair the next day, DJ Rae penned out some parody songs, amongst them her most popular "Talk Like A Magician" and "Killing Me, Tommy". She got exactly 2 practice run-throughs before the songs were tracked and immortalized. This was fall 2004, long before Rae ever knew their was a fledgling and active genre of Harry Potter-themed music. That's mostly due to the fact she is the only wizard rock band in Idaho. After sharing her mp3s with a few people, DJ Rae never really thought much about her wizardry singing.
But it wasn't until she joined MySpace in spring '07 that her discovery and interest in wizard rock exploded beyond all control. After immersing herself happily into all things wrock, DJ Rae was recruited as an editor and podcaster for several podcasts, including Potter Noyz podcasts and AtriumCast Wizard Rock Style. After listening to her songs, virtually all of Rae's newly-acquired MySpace geek-friends encouraged her to start her own wizard rock band, and on September 25, 2007, both the moniker "DJ Rae" and her band Chaos of the Phoenix was born.
