childhood living in Providence, Santa Monica, Chicago, Boston and Paris, and the Loire Valley (France).
Charles fell in love with rock and roll at 10, and began gigging regularly by 14.
Then introduced to Jazz, Charles played experimental music throughout high school, and then college,
playing shows regularly at the Regattabar (Boston's answer to the Blue Note). After graduating from
Harvard University in 2002, Charles moved to NY to record with Joe Blaney (Producer of The Clash,
Keith Richards etc.) in a rock outfit called the Curves. Charles quit shortly thereafter "tired of playing
songs about nothing."
He moved to Queens and began supporting himself by playing fulltime in the NY subways. For 2 years,
Charles has developed his acoustic sound, now playing clubs regularly in New York and developing his
East Coast tour route. "I've always been interested in lyrics and poetry. The folk tradition always felt true
to me, important. There's an honesty that is hopelessly missing in pop culture. Every court needs a few
jesters. Without them, the country loses its mind."
