He holds a doctoral degree in Sacred Music and Gregorian Chant from the Papal Institute of Sacred Music in Milan. Members of the Congregation of St. Lazarus Autun of the Cathedral Saint-Lazare Autun, (in Autun, France), have recorded and released Gregorian Chant under his direction. Some of these recordings are available on compilation albums of Gregorian Chant. Fulvio Rampi is also the founder and permanent director of the group Cantori Gregoriani-- a professional ensemble of male voices that he founded in 1986. They have made a large number of recordings for various labels.
Fulvio Rampi was president of the Italian division of the International Association for Studies of Gregorian chant from 1991 to 1995, and until 1995 he was a teacher on international courses in Gregorian chant organised in Cremona by the same association. His concert activities involve being an organ soloist and being the director of monophonic as well as polyphonic choirs.He holds the Chair in Pre-Polyphony at the "G. Verdi" Music Conservatorium in Turin. He has also been responsible for the transcription and publication-- in two volumes-- of sacred polyphonic compositions of the renaissance period. He works as a compositor on the liturgical music magazine, Armonia di Voci when he is not busy conducting, performing, directing, recording and/or teaching Sacred Music of the Early Period.
