His debut solo project Hasta Que el Sol Se Vaya, featuring drummer Enrique "Bugs" Gonzalez (Los Lobos, Aleks Syntek, Jumbo), guitarist Fran Iturbe (Enrique Bunbury, Mikel Erentxun), and bassist Cesar Pliego (Kinky), showcases the talent of this experienced artist. Playa, demonstrates his ability to downplay heavy guitar riffs with light lyrics of fun and hope, while the powerful vocals in Para Ti embrace all of the elements of pure rock. The yearning melodies and lyrics in “Transparente” showcase his ability to embrace a softer approach to his signature rock sound.
Latin indie favorites Kinky, Zoe, Mikel Erentxun, Ruben Albarran (of Café Tacuba), Mana, Santana, Ozomatli, Moenia and Juanes, are included on the long list of stellar musicians who have collaborated and shared the stage with this multifaceted artist. Cuevo's powerful vocals, lyrical originality, and versatility have been showcased on the stages of New York's historic club CBGB as well as in legendary music hubs such as Whiskey A GoGo, The Roxy Theatre, Key Club, and House of Blues.
Accolades continued later in the year as Enrique Bunbury was quoted in an interview saying that of the artists based in Los Angeles, he liked the work of Cuevo and one other local singer songwriter best:
“Bunbury is known for his generosity with up and coming artists and for discovering underground talent. Near the end of our interview he said that among the artists that he has seen in Los Angeles, he admires the work of Cuevo Perez and of singer Gaby Moreno.” – Enrique Bunbury (alborde.com Dec 15, 2011)
After taking some time off in early 2012 to be with his family, Cuevo recently completed an acclaimed tour of Mexico, performing in important venues like El Imperial, Doberman and El Chopo cultural center. His new video, “Besos de Fuego” off his solo album will premiere on August 30, 2012.
