Dana Kletter is a musician and writer. Her first band, “dark art-folk trio” blackgirls was discovered by Joe Boyd (Nick Drake, Sandy Denny, Fairport Convention, Vashti Bunyan) who signed them and produced their two releases in the early ‘90s, in conjunction with American indie label Mammoth Records. Dana’s major label debut with her band Dish was produced by John Agnello (The Kills, The Hold Steady, Breeders) and released on Interscope Records. Dana moved back into folk-rock and her collaboration with Joe Boyd for Dear Enemy, written and recorded with her identical twin, Karen Kletter, and released on Rykodisc. Her lullabye record, Mrs. Moon, made for British imprint Barefoot Books is now in its second printing.
Dana's voice and piano can be heard on Hole’s Live Through This, The Hold Steady’s Boys and Girls In America, Flare Acoustic Art League’s Big Top/Encore, Michael Hurley’s Sweetkorn, Damon and Naomi’s This Blue Earth, and recordings by Linda Thompson, Mike Johnson, Angels of Epistemology and Hobex.
Dana’s writing can be found in The Sun, Michigan Quarterly Review, San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Phoenix, Independent and other journals.
