A life long music fan, he taught himself guitar when his Dad bought him one along with one of those helpful books. With influences including Smog and Tom Waits, his output was never going to be that conventional, but coupled with a boredom of conventional band setups and playlists, David's live shows especially have earned him quite a reputation for being something different, with multiple loopings and samplings used to build up the impression of a large ensemble. Add to this some slow-dancing and occasional off stage singing and we've travelled some distance from your four skinny white lad band arrangment.
David finds silence interesting. Despite the many layers in his music it always retains a sparse and chilling essence. This remains true even when backed by Leeds-based experimental orchestra outfit 7 Hertz (impressive in their own right; think Rachels in a jazz club, on smack). 7 Hertz effortlessly provide ideal dark and arresting emotive layerings to David's dark rambling travels, full of aggressive cello and violin strikes.
