Deadsun was formed in November 2001, by guitarist Rex Arthur, drummer Adam Hempseed and singer Todd Cadorette.
In 2004, Dee Adman (former bassist from Medicine Man) joined the band. After a year and a half they went into the studio with engineer producer Jim Lightman, to create their first full CD: 'Degenerate Matter'. They continued to build on the succes of the album with their second release: 'Falling Away'.
If only

The way I feel inside
The emptiness, the nothing that's beneath all of my lies
And now I'm looking through manipulating eyes
I create my own universe just to get by
The price you pay
To gain control
To feel the flames
To lose your soul
And if only everyone would change
And if only you would just see things my way
And if only you would just get with my plan
Things would not get out of hand
And if only...
I lift myself above
This ordinary life
Reality is left out on a limb to rot and die
And now I'm sifting through
The truth that I despise
The me you know is sheltered by the wool over your eyes
The price you pay
To gain control
To feel the flames
To lose your soul
And if only everyone would change
And if only you would just see things my way
And if only you would just get with my plan
Things would not get out of hand
And if only, yeah
The price you pay
To gain control
To feel the flames
To lose your soul
The price you pay
To gain control
To feel the flames
To lose your soul
And if only everyone would change
And if only you would just see things my way
And if only you would just get with my plan
Things would not get out of hand...
And if only everyone would change
And if only you would just see things my way
And if only you would just get with my plan
Things would not get out of hand
If only...
The song "If Only" by Deadsun is a powerful track that speaks to the emptiness and desire for control that one might feel in their everyday life. The first verse suggests that the singer is struggling with a sense of emptiness inside themselves, and is using lies and manipulation to create their own version of reality that allows them to get by. The second verse takes this a step further, as the singer claims to have lifted themselves above their ordinary reality and now sifts through the truths they despise, all while keeping those around them in the dark.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "if only" several times, and serves to reinforce the idea that the singer's desire for control and their desire to have others see things their way is at the root of their discontent. The repeated lines "the price you pay to gain control, to feel the flames, to lose your soul" also suggests that their quest for control might come at too high a cost.
Overall, "If Only" is a powerful and thought-provoking track that speaks to themes of control, manipulation, and a search for meaning in the world.
