Let's Hear It for the Boy
Deniece Williams Lyrics

He ain't got much to say
But he loves me, loves me, loves me
I know that he loves me anyway
And maybe he don't dress fine
But I don't really mind
'Cause every time he pulls me near
I just want to cheer
Let's hear it for the boy
Let's give the boy a hand
Let's hear it for my baby
You know you gotta understand
Whoa, maybe he's no Romeo
But he's my lovin' one-man show
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Let's hear it for the boy
My baby may not be rich
He's watchin' every dime
But he loves me, loves me, loves me
We always have a real good time
And maybe he sings off key
But that's alright by me
'Cause what he does he does so well
Makes me wanna yell
Let's hear it for the boy
Ah, let's give the boy a hand
Let's hear it for my baby
You know you gotta understand
Whoa, maybe he's no Romeo
But he's my lovin' one man show
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Let's hear it for the boy
'Cause every time he pulls me near
I just wanna cheer
Let's hear it for the boy
Ah, let's give the boy a hand
Let's hear it for my baby
You know you gotta understand, whoa
Maybe he's no Romeo
But he's my lovin' one man show
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Let's hear it for the boy (Let's hear it for the boy)
Let's hear it for my man (Let's hear it for my baby)
Let's hear it for my baby (Let's hear it for the boy)
(Let's hear it for my baby)
(Let's hear it for the boy)
Let's hear it for my man
(Let's hear it for my baby)
(Let's hear it for the boy)
Put your hands together
(Let's hear it for my baby)
(Let's hear it for the boy)
Let's hear it for my boy
(Let's hear it for my baby)
Let's hear it for my man
(Let's hear it for the boy)
Ooh
(Let's hear it for my baby)
Let's hear it for my man, yeah
"Let's Hear It for the Boy" is a 1984 classic hit single by Deniece Williams. The lyrics of the song mainly discuss a woman's unconditional love and admiration for her less-than-perfect partner. Deniece sings that her man isn't perfect when it comes to conversing or dressing, but in the end, she still loves him while cheering him on. Deniece goes on to say that her man is still her one-man show who remains lovable even though he may not fit society's unique or conventional standards.
The lyrics to some extent are a call to accept and appreciate people for who they are rather than subjecting them to pressure to be perfect. It highlights the importance of setting aside superficial views and loving the person underneath, regardless of any imperfections. It's also about having someone that may not be ideal, but brings joy and love to your life.
Additionally, the song's upbeat rhythm and catchy chorus made it ideal for parties and dancing events across the country. The chorus shows how the song became so popular over time, featuring memorable lines like "Let's hear it for the boy" and "Put your hands together."

My baby he don't talk sweet
My partner isn't one to sweet talk me
He ain't got much to say
He isn't verbose or chatty most of the time
But he loves me, loves me, loves me
But he deeply cares for and loves me
I know that he loves me anyway
I am aware of his love regardless of his lack of verbal expressions
And maybe he don't dress fine
Although his dressing sense may not be great
But I don't really mind
It doesn't bother me much
'Cause every time he pulls me near
Because whenever he comes close to me and holds me
I just want to cheer
It fills me with happiness and excitement
Let's hear it for the boy
Let's celebrate my partner
Let's give the boy a hand
Let's applaud my partner
Let's hear it for my baby
Let's give a cheer for my significant other
You know you gotta understand
You need to comprehend and acknowledge this love I'm celebrating here
Whoa, maybe he's no Romeo
He may not be the ideal romantic lead as in Romeo in the tale of Romeo and Juliet
But he's my lovin' one-man show
But he's the one who is everything to me and who makes my life complete
My baby may not be rich
My partner may not be affluent
He's watchin' every dime
He's careful with his money and spends wisely
But he loves me, loves me, loves me
But he loves me unconditionally
We always have a real good time
We always have a great time together
And maybe he sings off key
And although he does sing off-key
But that's alright by me
I am fine with his singing not being perfect
'Cause what he does he does so well
Because in everything he does, he tries his best and excels
Makes me wanna yell
It fills me with excitement and enthusiasm
Let's hear it for my man
Let's celebrate my partner

OMG, I was just a little girl of 6 when this came out... My beautiful baby brother had just turned 1, and I used to sing this to him and make him dance around the front room with me every time it came on the radio - it was "our song" for years! 😍 We were like a double act - we even had rhyming names (Beth and Seth!) 😂 I can still see his gorgeous smile and hear him laugh - he was such a sweet, kind little boy - but sadly he was also very poorly and had a lot of health issues, and in 1992 he died of Reye's Syndrome aged 9 (when I was 14)... When it became obvious he wasn't going to make it, I put this song on and we had one last singalong to it as he lay in the hospital bed... As the song ended, he smiled at me and held my hand, and shortly afterwards he fell asleep, and never woke up again... I'm now 44 and still miss him terribly - but as the 30th anniversary of his passing approaches, rather than sadness, the song fills me with joy and happiness, remembering all the great times we shared while he was still with us... R.I.P. Seth - LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE BOY!!! 👦

Hey, it's "Amazing" how lack of vocabulary is so common in society (ignorance, lack of education) that everyone sounds uniformly ignorant. Wouldn't you agree?

The beat, base, synth, lyrics and positive vibe is what makes this song magical. I'm so proud to have been part of that Era of life and music.

My friend, I'm with you. I'm proud to say that I was an 80s kid. All the music was magical and timeless. I'm 51 and still eat, sleep, breathe 80s.
