A musician since birth, the artist needlessly studied jazz and classical music on four instruments when he should have been perfecting his hair-cut. He is one of the only artists in history to begin performing solely from the need to express new ideas and sounds for desperate ears, rather than the urge for sexual gratification from strange women.
Taking the lead from past multi-instrumentalists as Roy Wood (Move, ELO, Wizzard), Ollie Halsall (Patto), Christian Vander (Magma) and Peter Hammill (VDGG), and with bags of Zappa-style cynicism (firmly-implanted during impressionable adolescent years), Depravity Brown seeks to fuse any possible musical genre or guttural grunt into a single, bludgeoning cacophony of organized mania.
Our Depraved friend first emerged in 2002 to release his debut LP, ‘Domestic Depravity’, featuring the 25-minute composition, ‘The Tragedy, Travesty & Majesty of Derelict, Despondency and Depravity’. The latest release, ‘Ugly Music For People Who Hate The World’, took the better part of four years to complete, written in three different cities and recorded in four different studios, with only Depravity Brown at the instruments and microphones, and his producer and co-composer, Aidan Campbell (another long-time industry sufferer), at the controls.
Despite his willingness to go anywhere, any time, Mr. Brown would be happy to remain a blip, ignored by all, save for those select few who remember a time when musicians could actually play their instruments well, packed depth into every second of their recordings and, well, actually meant something…
