Merry Christmas, baby, you really did treat me nice
Bought me a hi-fi for Christmas, now I'm living in paradise
Well, I'm feelin', mighty fine, I got good music on my radio
Well, I feel so fine, I got good music on my radio
Yes, I want to hug and kiss you baby
While you're standing beneath the mistletoe
Santa came down the chimney, 'bout a half past three
Left all these pretty presents that you see before me
Merry Christmas baby, you really been good to me
I will always love you baby
Now I'm happy as I can be
Destra's song "I Dare You" has striking similarities to the Christmas classic "Merry Christmas, Baby" by Otis Redding. The opening lines of the song pay homage to the latter, with Destra singing, "Merry Christmas, baby, you really did treat me nice". This sets the tone for the rest of the song, which is all about expressing gratitude for a special someone who has made the singer's life better.
The lyrics talk about the gifts received during the holiday season, with the most notable gift being a hi-fi system. The gift has brought about a sense of contentment and euphoria to the singer. She feels like she's living in paradise, basking in the pleasure of having good music playing on her radio. The listener is invited to join in the joy and happiness of Christmas, as the singer croons about wanting to "hug and kiss you baby while you're standing beneath the mistletoe".
The bridge of the song talks about the arrival of Santa Claus, who left pretty presents under the tree. This leads the singer to conclude that her lover has been good to her throughout the year, bringing her immense happiness. The final verse brings the song to a close with the singer declaring that she will always love her lover.
Overall, "I Dare You" is a sweet and sentimental song that celebrates the festive season and the special people in our lives. The lyrics are simple yet profound, and Destra's vocals breathe life into the words, creating an irresistible melody that will make listeners want to sway and sing along.
