Schneider was a fan of pop music and hip hop when he was a child, but later he was attracted to the narrative aspect of country music and began singing at age 14. After meeting Brett Eldredge at a concert in the singer's hometown (Paris, Illinois), Schneider was invited to the stage by Eldredge to perform a song during the latter's performance at Terre Haute. He then began writing and playing songs in both Indiana and Nashville, Tennessee. Between 2014 and 2016, Schneider published a series of videos on YouTube of him making versions of popular country songs, which earned him attention online. The first video was published on May 18, 2014.
How Does It Sound
Dylan Schneider Lyrics

When you're thinking 'bout us on a Friday night?
Are we black top burning, spinning the tires?
Are we slow dancing?
To a vinyl record, to a mixtape, a coverband playing, on broadway?
Is it quiet in the background or is it turned up loud?
Do you hear that rain on the roof of an F-150
Sitting up high looking out on the city
Me and you melting down something ice cold
While we're heating it up
Is it a little George Strait or a little more Tim McGraw?
It don't matter to me, girl, I like it all
When you're thinking 'bout me and you're falling in love like we are right now
How does it sound?
If we do something crazy?
Ditch the crowd, get all alone, baby
Make some noise, make a soundtrack
Close your eyes, girl do you hear that?
Rain on the roof of an F-150
Sitting up high looking out on the city
Me and you melting down something ice cold
While we're heating it up
Is it a little George Strait or a little more Tim McGraw?
It don't matter to me, girl, I like it all
When you're thinking 'bout me and you and falling in love like we are right now
How does it sound?
And are we singing along?
How does it sound?
While we're here, play on all night long
Do you hear that rain on the roof of an F-150?
Sitting up high looking out on the city
Me and you melting down something ice cold while we're heating it up
Is it a little George Strait or a little more Tim McGraw?
It don't matter to me, girl, I like it all
When you're thinking 'bout you and me falling in love like we are right now
How does it sound? (Hear that rain on the roof of an F1-50)
How does it sound?
How does it sound? (Sitting up high looking out on the city)
So tell me, girl
How does it sound?
The lyrics of Dylan Schneider's "How Does It Sound" are a nostalgic ode to young love and the memories it creates. Schneider is wondering what it sounds like to his lover when she thinks of him. He theorizes that the sound might be a mix of various things, such as the tires burning on blacktop, slow dancing to a vinyl record, or the rain on the roof of an F-150 truck. He loves it all, whether it's a little George Strait or a little more Tim McGraw, as long as it's something they both enjoy while melting down something ice-cold and heating things up.
The chorus repeats and emphasizes the question of "how does it sound," begging for his lover's interpretation of past and future memories. Throughout the song, the romantic and playful lyrics create an image of two young people in love, enjoying each other's company, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Dylan Schneider reminds us of the little moments that create lasting romantic experiences, and this song is a perfect reminder of young love.
