Summertime Blues
Eddie Cochran Lyrics

I'm gonna raise a fuss, I'm gonna raise a holler
About a-workin' all summer just to try to earn a dollar
Every time I call my baby, try to get a date
My boss says, "no dice son, you gotta work late"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a-gonna do
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

Well, my mom and pop told me, "son, you gotta make some money"
If you want to use the car to go ridin' next Sunday
Well, I didn't go to work, told the boss I was sick
"Well, you can't use the car 'cause you didn't work a lick"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

I'm gonna take two weeks, gonna have a fine vacation
I'm gonna take my problem to the United Nations
Well, I called my congressman and he said "whoa!"
"I'd like to help you son but you're too young to vote"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

Eddie Cochran was amazing in his own rite! I never compare him to Elvis or anyone else. I was growing up when this song came out, loved it and will never forget it. Working on a guitar tutorial for it right now. R.I.P. Eddie.

Eric, your teaching is terrific. Gotta question for you. I've had this theory for a long time. Is it possible (at least) one guitar and bass are tuned to Eb and played as if in F? If not, how are they doing the Eb-E, Eb-E riff? Thoughts?

I met Eddie in 1956 while waiting to see Ray Price, Eddie, Buddy Knox and the Rhythm Orchids. I was early and they guys were just unloading their instruments... Eddies said " Hey want to give us a hand"? I helped them set up and while were finishing The main doors opened and a flood of girls rushed in.... they came up to the bandstand with pen and pads asking for autographs... one girl said which on is Eddie... Eddie pointed to me and winked... I must have signed a dozen or more before I gave up.
I talked to the guys after the gig and was loading their gear in the cars... I asked Eddie how he felt about Elvis... He looked at me for a second, looked around to see who was in ear shot and he said,"Elvis is the King and always will be". I talked to Eddie a few more time before his death,,, he was a good guy, great guitar and drummer as well as singer.

Wow! Thanks for sharing that story. I must say - Eddie did a great effect on me in `79. I remember that night when I returned home from a ice hockey training... I heard Summertime Blues from the Finnish radio channel.... My world has not been the same after that... I have listened Eddie's music since that. Played also many instruments myself and did some vinyl recordings back in `80s, own studio nowadays... Have to mention, last year I bough Gretch Eddie Cochran Signature model - which is amazing guitar (I have about 20 guitars, but this is one of my favourites..).. Well, must say - I really love the guy, his voice, his guitar playing, and his songs! Like to visit Oklahoma, Bell Gardens, Bath hospital area, etc. some time... Lets see.. take care you all Eddie fans all over the world! Lets keep in touch! :D
