After becoming a police officer, like his father, during the late 1960s, Money began to be interested in music, and eventually ended his law enforcement career in favor of becoming a musician. He moved to Berkeley, California and became a regular at area clubs, where he eventually got enough attention to secure a recording contract with Columbia Records. Later in the 1970s, he charted with singles such as "Baby Hold On" and "Two Tickets to Paradise". Money continued his successes and took advantage of the MTV music video scene in the early 1980s with his humorous narrative videos for "Shakin'" and "Think I'm in Love", but his career began to fail him after several unsuccessful releases in the mid-1980s, accompanied by his struggles with drug addiction.
Money made a comeback two years later in 1986 and returned to the mainstream rock spotlight with the album Can't Hold Back, which featured a Ronnie Spector duet with "Take Me Home Tonight", which reached the Top 10, along with the hit "I Wanna Go Back". Money followed the album with another Top 10 hit, late 1988's "Walk on Water", but his Top 40 career ended when "I'll Get By" charted in 1992. During the 1990s and 2000s, Money continued to release numerous compilation albums along with several albums featuring new material. Today, he still tours the "Oldies" circuit regularly, often accompanied by other successful rock acts from his era, and has also made several television appearances on American sitcoms. Since 1992, Money has traditionally opened the summer concert season for DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, MI.
Eddie Money passed away from complications related to esophageal cancer in 2019 at the age of 70.
Take Me Home Tonight

That tries to keep a man awake at night
Are you the answer? I shouldn't wonder
When I can feel you whet my appetite
With all the power you're releasing
It isn't safe to walk the city streets alone
Anticipation is running through me
Let's find the key and turn this engine on
I can feel you breathe
I can feel your heart beat faster
Take me home tonight
I don't wanna let you go 'til you see the light
Take me home tonight
Listen, honey, just like Ronnie sang
Be my little baby, oh, ho, oh
I get frightened in all this darkness
I get nightmares I hate to sleep alone
I need some company, a guardian angel
To keep me warm when the cold winds blow
I can feel you breathe
I can feel your heart beat faster
Take me home tonight
I don't wanna let you go 'til you see the light
Take me home tonight
Listen, honey, just like Ronnie sang
Be my little baby
Be my little baby, ho, huh
Just like Ronnie sang
I said
Just like Ronnie sang
Be my little baby
Baby, my darlin'
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I feel a hunger
It's a hunger
Take me home tonight
I don't wanna let you go 'til you see the light (oh, oh, oh, oh, oh)
Take me home tonight
Listen, honey, just like Ronnie sang (oh, oh, oh, oh, oh)
Be my little baby (take me home tonight)
I don't wanna let you go 'til you see the light
Take me home tonight
Listen, honey, just like Ronnie sang (oh, oh, oh, oh, oh)
Be my little baby (take me home tonight)
I don't wanna let you go 'til you see the light (be my darling, oh ho, oh, oh)
Take me home tonight
Listen, honey, just like Ronnie sang (oh, oh, oh, oh, oh)
Be my little baby (take me home tonight)
I don't wanna let you go 'til you see the light (no, no, no, no)
Take me home tonight
In Eddie Money's song "Take Me Home Tonight," the lyrics describe the singer's desire for companionship and love, which he compares to a hunger that keeps him up at night. The singer wonders if the person he is with could be the answer to his hunger, as he feels his appetite being whetted. Despite feeling empowered by the person's presence, the singer acknowledges the danger of being alone in the city streets. However, anticipation runs through him as he suggests finding the key and turning the engine to turn his desires into actions.
The singer continues to describe his need for companionship, admitting to being frightened by darkness and having nightmares. He wants a guardian angel to keep him warm when the cold winds blow. Despite his fears, he feels the person's heart beat and breath, making him feel alive. The chorus repeats the desire to be taken home tonight and the desire to be held until the light is seen. The lyrics reference Ronnie, likely a reference to the song "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes, with the singer asking the other person to be his little baby.
Overall, the lyrics of "Take Me Home Tonight" convey the singer's longing for love and companionship, comparing it to a physical hunger. He feels empowered yet vulnerable in the presence of the other person, and seeks comfort and warmth from them.
