Mads Hauge had agreed to accompany a friend to his Nan's 80th birthday celebrations somewhere in southeast London. Keen to get to grips with London living Mads, a native of Norway, eagerly agreed to go to New Cross Working Man's Club, just to experience some authentic English rituals that include woodbine smoking and bitter drinking, interspersed with regular walks to the dartboard.
Being the polite man that he is, he chatted freely with Bob's family and watched the onslaught of entertainment, which included talking furry animals and six year old girls tap dancing. Julie Thompson, throughout this time, had been sat at the bar; desperately waiting for the moment she could escape from her family and the dodgy covers band that were trying to entertain everyone. To pass the time, she sung the words to Walk On By into her glass of vodka tonic. Ice and a slice, of course.
Mads found himself impressed by Julie's vocal snicka snack blade, even if she had been blurbling into a glass, and grabbed five minutes with her after to talk about a possible writing partnership. All in a very polite manner, obviously. Before too long, the pair had hit it off and were soon recording a raft of tracks - some of which have even made it on to this album. Mads is now a confirmed bitter drinker and often tokes the odd woodbine. Julie tries to stay off the vodka, continues to write with Mads and is often mistaken for a boy hamster.
