I still think this is the best version. Peggy Seeger's voice gives it a much more romantic upbeat sound without being too melancholy like other versions, in my opinion.

addendum:
I guess I just find this song sounds more powerful with the kind of
optimism portrayed in this version. When you listen to the
lyrics it's really an innocent song of how someone felt falling in love
with someone, and feeling completely vindicated in their faith towards that person. I think Peggy Seeger
captures that aspect better. Flack's version sounds more brooding like a
lover who's already lost time and again and is kind of reflecting on the pain in a longing way, where Seeger's sounds like she is reflecting on the joy and innocence and good feelings of having been lucky enough to have loved like that at all.

Ewen wrote this song for Peggy. According to the legend, while he was on tour, Ewen called Peggy from a public telephone booth, sang this song to her, and then asked her to marry him. Best engagement gift ever.

“If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk through my garden forever.”

What beautiful word's

So this Ewen guy had it worked out, write a love song for the person you love to sing to you.

While the other renditions(e.g.Roberta)is much more melancholic to hear due to slower tempo, instruments used, vocal style, which gives more color/life to the song.. without the original, we couldnt have had this beautiful song. My Big respect to the Original writer

One of the most beautiful love songs ever.

Phil Pryor

It is a wild and natural song, sung as if from a far off time, now lost and misunderstood, but full of smiling, natural lusty love, and told boldly as if nothing really mattered, when one faced the only vision...in a world lost, perhaps not ever, certainly not in this spoiled world...

Norm Hall

Everyone brings their background into their interpretations. Roberta is wonderful and so is this by Peggy. Enjoy all! They all have integrity.

each version has its own merit, I also enjoy the flaming lips version; quite unlike any other

Many fail to realize that this is a FOLK song. It is not meant to be structured predictably. There are some melodic references to old English/Scottish folk music. Listen to some other folk songs and you'll hear similar singing style and structure.

Remember folks, just because you're not used to something, doesn't mean it's automatically horrible.
