They started writing material based on their love for music like AJJ, Joyce Manor, and Bomb The Music Industry!, combining a confessional and heartbreaking lyrical style with the punk stylings of their teenage years. They began playing as Floral Tattoo, naming themselves after a Spotify playlist of a friend's. After leaving the Seattle area and moving to Chico, CA, they continued to write and play shows as Floral Tattoo, eventually moving back to Washington. They then formed a full-electric Floral Tattoo band - featuring Nico Pellowski on bass, Christian Taylor on drums, and Gwen Power as a multi-instrumentalist. The songs became augmented in a way they never had before, combining the previous songs with emo, dream pop, and shoegaze influence. They would record their debut album, "Approaching Bearable", in the late fall of 2017 and release it the following March.
Travis Powell would replace Pellowski on bass in the fall of 2018, and the band would being recording their second record in December of that year. Christian Taylor was replaced by Jake Kelly (also of Newbrighton) in February of 2019, and the band would wrap up recording their second album "You Can Never Have a Long Enough Head Start" that May. A grueling 5-month mixing process followed, with the album being released in January of 2020 to moderate critical acclaim.
