Life
Frederik Schrader was born on August 15, 1985 in Seeheim-Jugenheim near Darmstadt in the german state of Hesse. He is the second child of the German air force officer Manfred Schrader and the Montessori-eduacationist Marianne Schrader (maiden name Wiemken). The maternal family tree can be traced back to the Frisian chieftain Edo Wiemken, whose tomb can be visitied in the Evangelist city church of Jever.
Education
Frederik Schrader went to the "Graf Friedrich-school" in Diepholz, the"Elsa-Brändström-school" in Elmshorn and gained his qualify for university entrance in 2004. From 2005 until 2010 Frederik Schrader studied German philology, economic and social psychology and philosophy at the Georg-August-University in Göttingen.
Musical career
After early childhood experiments with drums and keyboard, Frederik Schrader received his first piano when he was nine. Parallel to his classical piano studies, Frederik Schrader taught himself the drums again, the harmonica, acoustic and electric guitars, the cajon, the cello, the accordion and the harp. Beginning in elementary school, Frederik Schrader began with the production of his own music and tried to inspire classmates and friends for joint band projects.
The early compositions and lyrics of Frederik Schrader vary thematically and musically in a significant way between the works after 1998, which (among other things also dued to move from the Lower Saxony's Diepholz to the Schleswig-Holstein's Bokholt-Hanredder) inhere young melancholy and desire. Moreover, longing, escapism, and romanticism were the driving forces for the creation of the fantasy world Mythanien in the year 2000. The musical background of Mythanien revealed works like "Stalaga", "Amri" and"Casoley" and solidified the classical, neo-romantic style of Frederik Schraders piano compositions.
Opus
The soundtrack of Mythanien and many other songs are part of "Apeiron", a collection of own compositions, conceived as a project-album. The pre-Socratic thinker Anaximander used the term "Apeiron" to characterize a sort of ylem, that was "boundless", "indefinable" und "the beginning and origin of everyhting that is" to him. Both of these meanings of the Apeiron, indeterminableness and origin, are reflected in the high musical diversity of the album and its status as a first work.
His second album-project, "Waikiki Gold", is a collection of Frederik Schraders intuitive instrumental series, that combines ethnic with electronic music.
In addition Frederik Schrader is member of the alternative band Minorcracy since september 2006. Under the pseudonym "FreD WesT", he was the singer, guitar and cajon player of the band until 2009. After the stylistic turning point in the end of 2009, Frederik Schrader now is
playing the piano exclusively.
Furthermore, Frederik Schrader is cooperating with several independent film studios, f.e. he is working on a soundtrack for the play "Mariam's Pardon" from Wayne Erreca.
