If Kyuss had been fronted by Janis Joplin on bad acid they might sound something like Fuzz Manta (especially on “Sickness”, where they spend some time channelling the riff-hungry monster of Black Sabbath)… or if L7 had been infused with the spirit of Desert Sessions-era Queens Of The Stone Age they might have conquered the world in a few short weeks. Smokerings is heavy hippie rock for the stoner generation, authentic, gutsy and with the best-named bassist in all of Europe: Morten Clod-Svensson’s fuzz bass defines the band’s sound and ensures the necessary clod-thick undercarriage is always on target. FUZZ MANTA plays Psychedelia infused Hard Rock, Blues and Rock! The quintet’s sound is being charakterized by two lead-guitars, the melodic-dynamic interplay of the rhythm section as well as the voice of singer Lene Kjær Hvillum who essentially coins the band’s sound with her charismatic and expressiv-guttural delivery.
FUZZ MANTA’S influences range from Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk Railroad via Black Sabbath or Whitesnake to comtemporary artists like Clutch, Graveyard, We and the neo-hippies of Black Mountain. Since 2006 the band has established itself firmly in the Copenhagen Rock sene through countless concerts, two self-released EPs as well as various contributions to samplers.
FUZZ MANTA has collected thorough touring experience during three German tours as well as concerts in Austria and Sweden. The band’s development has been highlighted by a well-deserved support slot for heavy psych rockers Nebula in the fall of 2008 as well as a performance at Austria’s Sauzipf Rocks Festival in the summer of the same year where the band was hailed by festival promoters and visitors alike as the best band and most surprising discovery of the year. Spring 2009 sees the release of FUZZ MANTA’s debut full lenght- album “Smokerings” on the German label Bad Deal Records (distributed by World in Sound) followed by extensive touring in Germany between June and October 2009.
