Hey Jealousy
Gin Blossoms Lyrics

Tell me do you think it'd be all right
If I could just crash here tonight?
You can see I'm in no shape for driving
And anyway I've got no place to go
And you know it might not be that bad
You were the best I'd ever had
If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago
I might not be alone

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found
To take its place, hey jealousy
Hey jealousy, hey jealousy
Hey jealousy

And you can trust me not to think
And not to sleep around
If you don't expect too much from me
You might not be let down

'Cause all I really want is to be with you
Feeling like I matter too
If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago
I might be here with you

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found
To take its place, hey jealousy

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found
To take its place, hey jealousy
Hey jealousy, hey jealousy
Hey jealousy

Well tell me do you think it'd be all right
If I could just crash here tonight?
You can see I'm in no shape for driving
And anyway I've got no place to go
And you know it might not be that bad
You were the best I'd ever had
If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago
I might not be alone

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found
To take its place, hey jealousy

Hey jealousy, she took my heart
Well there's only one thing I couldn't start

The older I get, the harder it is to reconnect with that feeling of blissful happiness that came with being a kid.
But a song can open that door for just a second and fill my heart with a gust of happiness I thought long gone. Even if it’s only for a moment, sometimes a moment is all you need.

When a comment from a year ago hits so close to home you continue to come back to it every month to see how many folks this resonates with.

It sucks when the happier parts of your life are from when you were younger.

Vincent you said it. Songs are powerful. They are my time machine.

I think about this song more than I should. It’s not a cry for help, it’s a scream. He’s already lost. And he’s living after the credits stopped rolling. “ if I hadn’t blown the whole thing years ago, I’d still be her with you...” no one ever shows what happens to the guys that lose the girl. Lose the war. Lose themselves after the movie ends and the lights go up. This is the last cry, not for help, but for one last good bye before he goes his way forever. Sad. Beautiful. Real.

This song reminds me of the younger brother character in A River Runs Through It.
"Why is it that the people who need the most help. . . won't take it?"

wow, that is really well said. In my 30's I think about the loves that I lost, the good and the bad. Maybe time is a silly thing, I can only remember the good and how much I miss it.
