In May 2008, he was struck by a motor vehicle while riding his bicycle in Orlando, Florida. He suffered deep bouts of depression and existential frustration until he began busking later that year. Thus GioSafari was born, performing as a solo artist on the streets of downtown Orlando.
After releasing his debut EP "Life Is A Bike Wreck (Better Wear Your Helmet)" the following year, he moved to New York City and committed himself to music - songwriting, recording, busking, performing, promoting, even traveling - and activism. In the big city, Andollo saw injustice amplified and wanted to sing louder still on behalf of peace and reconciliation. His second EP "Protest Songs (Are Dead)" came out in August 2011, exactly one month prior to the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations at Zuccotti Park (which he also joined). One year later, in celebration and solidarity with the Occupy movement's first anniversary, he released his debut full-length album "Heliotropism," recorded with the help of co-producer and engineer Zachary Corsa (of Lost Trail) and members of Occupy Raleigh.
Through GioSafari, Andollo continues to speak truth to power in the heart of Empire - recalling the subversive musical traditions of American folk and punk, singing for peace and justice, and advocating the use of bicycle helmets.
