He was born in St. Mary's hospital, Manchester, England in 1985. He was the first frozen embryo baby to be born in Britain.
The name Greyaye was given by his sister when she was very small and struggled to say "Gregory".
Influences include experiences in the towns in which he has lived (Macclesfield, Scarborough, Tokyo, Matsumoto) as well as those he has visited (too many to list)
Greg started playing music at the age of 6 starting like many with the recorder. He then moved on to Electone organ before picking up the guitar at the age of 15.
Greg studied Creative Music Technology at the University of Hull, Scarborough Campus. His time here proved extremely influential as he was introduced to many different types of composition and new production techniques. It was at Scarborough that he completed The Time and the Place E.P. and his first full-length album, The Mammoth Task.
Between 2007 and June 2008, Greg performed solo shows in and around Manchester, as well as performing lead guitar and backing vocals for Alt. Folk group, Low Risers. ManchesterMusic.com reviewed two CDs by Greyaye, both of which recieved very high praise. MM awarded The Mammoth Task with "MMMM1/2" in December 2007 and tipped Greyaye as "A very bright star for 2008". He was also described as "Macclesfield's brightest musical talent" by The Macclesfield Express in February 2008. Greyaye then entered Noise Festival 2008 and recieved an "Excellent" grade from music curator, Badly Drawn Boy, for his songs Waiting For The Sunshine, Don't Rub It In and Fish Nor Foul. He was also "Featured artist of the week" during October 2008 for his video of new song If You've Been There, which was recorded whilst busking at night in Nakano, Tokyo. (www.noisefestival.com).
From June 2008 to May 2009, Greg was in Japan; exploring, working, living and drawing inspiration from a culture and landscape contrasting to that which he has grown up with. Greg performed intimate gigs in Tokyo and his Japanese hometown of Matsumoto. The day after his return to Manchester he performed at the 2009 Eurocultured Festival.
Now back in the UK armed with new, Japan inspired material, a fresh perspective and renewed enthusiasm, we are sure that it won't be too long before this young troubadour gains wider recognition.
The featured songs were recorded in Japan using a BOSS MicroBR 4-track, a mini Cajon and a Breedlove Passport travel guitar. The Gokiburi Song describes the squalid conditions found in many foreign guesthouses (Gaijin Houses) in the seemingly never-ending megalopolis of Tokyo.
In Greyaye you find variation and originality which is truly refreshing.
