Ground Frame was founded in April of 2009 by Ari Latvala, Osku Mäkelä, Perttu Nelimarkka and Jari Herrala as a result of a failed attempt to party in our home town Vimpeli, Finland. Our current location is Seinäjoki, Finland. History of a band contains a few line-up changes, some studio time, handful of shows and a shitload of success and fuck-ups at various scales.
We recorded our first demo ”Origin” very shortly after forming the band in 2009. The success of ”Origin” surprised all of us as we never really imagined the band becoming anything more than just a way to have fun within a close group of friends. Song called ”Threshold” got some air time in a Finnish national radio station, YleX and overall the whole record was very well received in music media. We also caught the eye of a couple of minor labels but decided to pass the offers and evolve on our own.
In spring of 2010 we recorded our first EP, ”Collision Leftovers” with Seppo Santala. The songs were more diverse and progressive. The different and more complex approach didn’t match the success of ”Origin”. However, looking back at that record, we still see it as a very important factor on the course of our evolvement.
Shortly after publishing ”Collision Leftovers” we were joined by our current bass player, Antti Jylhä. In fall of 2010 all the pieces seemed to have found their places. We published a digital single with songs ”Treadmill” and ”Life Unfolds”. That release became the turning point in our musical expression. For the first time we awakened the interest of major labels.
In 2011 we toured as much as we could. Treadmill/Life Unfolds caught some radio time and we were anxious to write new and better songs.
In 2012 we took a year off of doing shows and focused on rehearsing and writing new music. The result of this hiatus was our second extended play, entitled ”Worlds”. The process of making ”Worlds” took about six months from the first day of drum recordings to mastering the final product. We did a major part of the recording by ourselves - only the drum and vocal tracks of songs ”22” and ”Your call” required professional assistance.
We are constantly working to get better and finding new ways to challenge ourselves. We have great expectations for the future and can’t wait for our music to spread all over the world(s).
