But the big apple always had a great country music scene and HER & Kings County are living proof. Their potent blend of NYC attitude and southern rock has made them a NYC must see. As you already know, they're ready for the big time." - CMT
Does your iPod agitate your acid reflux? Are the songs on your radio preventing you from shedding that spare tire? Is the music you’ve been listening to contributing to your E.D.? Ask your doctor if HER and Kings County is right for you! Side effects may include increased ability of white folks to dance, a heightened sense of luck with the ladies, speeding tickets, and an insatiable urge to blow off work on Friday afternoons.
Fueled by the songwriting of lead singer Monique and accomplished producer/engineer/musician Caleb Sherman, the six-piece band including Nick diPierro on bass, Brother Love on drums, lead guitar player A Wonder and rhythm guitar player Justin Sherman has been packing the clubs of NYC for over four years with a sound so big that Nashville couldn’t help but hear it.
Monique began making a name for her self in the New York City music scene when she was only 12. She developed a reputation as a pop/rock powerhouse, but when she and fellow musician Caleb began writing songs together, it was one of those chemical reactions akin to Lennon/McCartney or Jagger/Richards. As they began to call upon friends to work up their new material, they realized that they were making country music. The dedicated collection of friends quickly became a band caught up in the energy and HER & KC was born.
Calling in favors from their friends, the band bartered for studio time and on a shoestring budget recorded two critically acclaimed independent CDs City-Country and 1609 and produced a pair of music videos to promote them. Their video for “My Backyard” was even picked up by CMT and aired regularly on their Loaded program. Where HER & KC truly shine, however, is on the stage. Their performances have become legendary and they’re steadily steamrolling across the country, leaving a trail of blown-away new fans in their wake.
HER & KC began making music not for the pursuit of fame, but because the passion to create and perform was worth the sacrifice of living in tiny apartments and scraping for rent money with odd jobs. In fact, in their earliest beginnings the band demanded that club owners not charge a cover at the door for their shows so that no fan would be denied the opportunity to hear their music, even though they barely had enough money to keep their electricity turned on.
HER and Kings County have recently attracted the attention of Nashville’s country music taste-makers, and if they can keep the suits from screwing up a really good thing, there’s a good chance that their music will continue to NOT suck and that HER and KC will have a shot at kicking ass for a long time.
