Small Town Saturday Night
Hal Ketchum Lyrics

There's an Elvis movie on the marquee sign,
We've all seen at least three times
Everybody's broke, Bobby's got a buck
Put a dollar's worth of gas in his pickup truck
We're going' ninety miles an hour down a dead end road
What's the hurry, son, where you gonna go?

We're gonna howl at the moon, shoot out the light
It's a small town Saturday night
It's a small town Saturday night

Lucy's got her lipstick on a little too bright
Bobby's gettin' drunk and lookin' for a fight
Liquor on his breath, trouble on his mind
And Lucy's just a kid along for the ride
Got a six-pack of beer and a bottle of wine
Gotta be bad just to have a good time

They're gonna howl at the moon, shoot out the light
It's a small town Saturday night
It's a small town Saturday night

Bobby told Lucy: "The world ain't round
Drops off sharp at the edge of town
Lucy, you know the world must be flat
'Cause when people leave town, they never come back"
They go ninety miles an hour to the city limits sign
Put the pedal to the metal 'fore they change their mind

They howl at the moon, shoot out the light
It's a small town Saturday night
Yeah, howl at the moon, shoot out the light
Yeah, it's a small town Saturday night
It's a small town Saturday night
It's a small town Saturday night

RIP Hal, you're already missed.

We've lost so many amazing people in this year that seems to stretch on for two years, but I'm really sad hearing about Hal's death. He was such a part of my mid-'90s playlist. I remember this song came out and I was spending time with my great-grandparents, and it was one of those songs I recorded off the radio because it was just...awesome, especially to someone who had grown up in small towns like this.

Back in 1990 something 67 seemed OLD. Now that I'm 50 something, 67 seems too young to die. RIP Hal Ketchum!

Death always comes too soon
Love the video to this song.

@Chad Harris I’m almost 40, and I used to think that 67 was old, but now realize that it’s not so old these days, as my grandmother lived another 35 years after age 67. RIP Hal. You should have lasted a lot longer.

Chad Harris

Exactly. My folks have recently passed 67, and deaths like Hal's make me realize just how quickly things can be taken from you. I only hope he's got some peace now. My best to his family and fans.
