The Bug Collector
Haley Heynderickx Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And there's a centipede
Naked in your bedroom
Oh and you swear to God
The fucker's out to get you

And I digress
'Cause I must make you the perfect morning
I try my best
To scoop the slugger out the window

And there's a praying mantis
Prancing on your bathtub
And you swear it's a priest
From a past life out to getcha

And I digress
'Cause I must make you the perfect evening
I try my best
To put the priest inside a jam jar

And there's a millipede
Angry on your carpet
Oh and I must admit
He's staring with a vengeance

Oh and I digress
'Cause I must make you the perfect morning
And I try my best
To prove that nothing's out to get you

To prove that nothing's out to get you

Overall Meaning

In Haley Heynderickx's song "The Bug Collector," the lyrics tell a story of a person who is struggling with their fear of insects. The singer describes various bugs that are inside the listener's bedroom and bathroom, and the listener can't shake the feeling that these bugs are out to harm them. The singer "digsress[es]" from the bug situation to focus on making the listener's day perfect, but ultimately returns to the bug issue and tries to prove that there is nothing to be afraid of.

At the heart of this song is the theme of fear and how it can consume and control us. The bugs in this song serve as a metaphor for the things that terrify us, and the listener's fear is so strong that they imagine the bugs are out to get them. The singer tries to help the listener move past their fear and see that nothing is actually trying to harm them.
