Hashbang Spacestar's singer and songwriter, Jack Fernley, has a passion for fun, love and life. His creative, reflective, and adventurous personality is evident in his songs, along with his fancy for electro.
Hashbang Spacestar's music is influenced by songwriters including Frank Black and Pixies; Tim Rogers and You Am I; and the Violent Femmes. Hashbang Spacestar love good electro, like Bleepin’ J Squawkins, B(if)tek, and Felix Da Housecat, and 80’s electro pop like The Pet Shop Boys, so there’s a good dash of electro influence in the production style. The vocals are laid back and based on the singing style of Kim Deale from Pixies, Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star, and a touch of Lou Reed (songs like Velvet Underground‘s "Sunday Morning").
Aussie bands like The Presets, Midnight Juggernauts, Cut Copy, PNAU and Empire of the Sun are making a lot of headway in pop music; they are an inspiration to Hashbang Spacestar for achieving great success.
Hashbang Spacestar is recommended if you like Empire of the Sun, PNAU, The Presets, Ladyhawke, Midnight Juggernauts, Cut Copy, Clan Analogue, La Roux, Chemical Brothers, Pet Shop Boys, and the Romeo + Juliet Soundtrack.
The songs on Hashbang Spacestar’s debut EP, “Memories Travel at the Speed of Light” are inspired by love, life, and good times. The EP is scheduled to hit stores in 2010, but for the moment, you can save money and discover Sydney’s newest gem of a band by downloading the EP from www.hashbangspacestar.com
