On February 5, 2008, Montag's first song, "Higher" received an online-only release on iTunes. The song and the video received a negative response from websites and readers across the internet, to which Montag responded, "I appreciate people taking the time to write any comment." The following month, Montag released her second song, "No More", through iTunes. In June 2008, Montag released two songs, "Fashion" and "One More Drink". Montag also revealed interest in releasing a Christian music album. On August 18, 2008, Montag released a song titled "Overdosin'" and on April 1, 2009, she debuted her new song "Look How I'm Doing" on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM show. In March 2009 Montag hired songwriter Cathy Dennis to work on her upcoming album.
Montag released "More Is More" in April 2009, and it is Montag's only song that managed to chart. On August 23, 2009, Montag performed "Body Language" during the Miss Universe 2009 pageant in the Bahamas in front of an expected worldwide audience of one billion. The song "Body Language" samples music from the hit "Situation" by Yazoo and it was performed by Montag during the presentation of all delegates in their swimming costumes. Montag's single, "Superficial" was released on November 22, 2009, and also failed to chart.
Montag's debut album, Superficial was digitally released on January 11, 2010. The album sold less than 1,000 copies on its first day and just over 1,000 copies in its first week.
On February 15, 2010, Montag released songs "Sex Ed" and "Trash Me".

You tried to blame it on me
At first it worked
I was feeling so guilty
You said, you said
I was the reason why
We couldn't work out
But that was all a lie
You never gave me
What I gave you boy
But it's your loss
'Cause you made the choice
To walk out
But you want me back around
I wish that I never loved you
Never loved you
I should have never let you have my heart
You made me not want to feel again
Made me scared to open up, but
Now I'm better off
No more bad days
Don't need you to validate me
No More
(I don't need you)
No More
(I don't need you)
No More
(I don't need you)
No More
(I don't need you)
You made me
Made me think we had something real
But then you tried to use the way I feel
Against me
Make me a yes girl
You tried to do
Had to free myself
'Cause I can't let you
Get the best of me
No more misery
Had to free myself
'Cause you're not the one for me
And I bet you wish you had my love again
I bet you wish you never made that decision
'Cause now you want me back
I bet you want me back
But when I cry myself to sleep
Tell me, where are you?
Chorus
Bridge:
I did everything you asked me to
But nothing was good enough
And baby, we're through
You act so arrogant
You act like you're heaven sent
And I'm not gonna let you get the best of me
I'll find someone who loves me for me
Heidi Montag's song "No More" is a break-up song that tells the story of a failed relationship. The song's lyrics talk about a guy who tries to blame the break-up on Heidi, but she actually knows it was all his doing. The guy never gave Heidi what she gave him, and she was the only one trying to keep their relationship alive. However, he decided to walk out, but now he wants to come back. Heidi regrets giving him her heart and making her scared to love again. However, now she is better off and does not need him to validate her. She is now free from his arrogance, and she will find someone who loves her for who she is.
The lyrics of "No More" convey a strong message about self-love and self-worth. Heidi is explaining how she was once scared to open up, but now she is better off without this person in her life. She has come to a point where she doesn't need the validation from anyone else. The lyrics of the song deliver a strong message that even if someone thinks they are heaven-sent and demands perfection in a relationship, if they don't fulfill their partner's needs, they will eventually lose them.
