Todd did view Mrs. Lovett as a good friend. It’s why at the end he’s so betrayed that she lied about Lucy being dead. She knows how precious she is to him, being that her fate is one of the main driving factors behind his plans for revenge. Mrs. Lovett listened to him, helped him, and supported him. He chose to trust her, a rare thing considering his character. And she broke that trust. That made him lose any shred of hope that he had left after everything he’s been through, and it made him realize that he could trust no one, that he had been just as naive as before he was exiled. That combined with the fact that he accidentally killed his wife, was a death sentence for him. He saw no reason to live anymore.

I love when he puts his hand on her leg then pulls away.
At first I thought it was just for comedy but now I think it shows what affection he had for Lovett. That deep down, he might have felt SOMETHING for her, but do to the fact that his heart is just too full of anger and vengance, he wouldn’t be able to really love her, but him agreeing to go on a picnic with her and Toby and affectionately touching her leg, I believe was his own subtle way of showing her that this would be the closest thing he could ever come to caring for her.

It's incredible how the colour details shift as the film progresses. As the meat-pie shop gets more customers and Sweeney Todd becomes less focused on his vengeance against the Judge and just bides his time with casual murder as he waits for the next opportunity, there's gradually more colour in the scenes. It's still muted, but compared to the almost noir-film aspect in relation to the bright and colourful flashbacks, it is significant as well as symbolic.

And even in the costumes, while the fantasy has everyone in brighter colours in a colourful world, Sweeney Todd is always in the black and white colour scheme

This cute scene was my favorite part of the whole movie. The song was good and catchy, Sweeney's face was a hilarious mood and it was so cheery, I love their outfits, especially Todd's bathing suit. I know they're both mentally ill and all but I was kind of rooting for them to live Mrs. Lovett's fantasy with little Toby in the end and have Todd fall in love with her, I shipped them so much, I don't like the ending 😫

I love this particular scene - it displays the only light moment in the whole movie, a glimpse of hope for normality. Ony here the color scheme is bright, happy while the rest of the movie is always dark with a bluish theme.
As you can see, Sweeney Todd is already too imprisoned in his thirst for revenge on judge Turpin and doesn´t share Mrs. Lovett´s dreams of a small, happy family in a house by the sea, far away from a dirty and overcrowded London.
But you can easily see that Mrs. Lovett doesn´t fit in her own dreams either, only in a superficial way but already too corrupted: dark rings under her eyes, pale and somehow off in clothing appearance. Also there is no real love (at least from Sweeney) between them.
While this scene shows that forgiveness could open a happy ending in this tragedy, it is already too late - their doomed paths are already settled.
Overall, a nice artistic work by Tim Burton.

I absolutely love their dynamic. Anyone who hasn't seen the movie would assume from this clip that he despises her completely, but of course that isn't completely true. She's romantically interested in him, and when this topic comes up suddenly he's disdainful towards her. Tim Burton't movies are so much unforgetable. I remember that time when at age of 7 my older sister for the first time showed me his movie, it was Edward the scisor hand, It was something trully unforgetable experience :,)

1:51 I remember seeing this in theaters, expecting the movie to be terrible, but ended up loving it. This scene really blew me away not only by how colorful the beginning of this scene was, but by how quickly everything fades back into that gloomy dark overcast look of the city life. The overall tone and look of this movie amazes me still. So well done and beautiful.

I always feel kind of sad when Mrs. Lovett sings the line, "we'll grow old together..." because we know that she dies in the end, and doesn't live to grow old with Sweeney, who she loves. I mean sure, she murdered people and wasn't a good person, but it makes me sad to think about her not being able to live by the sea and live her dream with Sweeney.
