Hide And Seek
Imogen Heap Lyrics

Where are we?
What the hell is going on?
The dust has only just begun to form
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking, feeling
Spin me around again
And rub my eyes
This can't be happening
When busy streets
A mess with people
Would stop to hold their heads heavy

Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
All those years
They were here first
Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before
The takeover
The sweeping insensitivity of this
Still life
Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines

(You won't catch me around here)
Blood and tears
They were here first
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, that you only meant well
Well of course you did
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, that it's all for the best
Of course it is
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, that it's just what we need
You decided this
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, what did she say?

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cutouts
Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you
You don't care a bit, you don't care a bit
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cutouts
Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you
You don't care a bit, you don't care a bit

(You don't care a bit)
Oh, no, you don't care a bit
Oh, no, you don't care a bit
Uh-uh, you don't care a bit
You don't care a bit
You don't care a bit

She managed to make a song with almost zero musical backing entertaining and deeply emotional. You need an impressive understanding of melody to be able to do this. Something I don't really see anyone even mentioning, either. As a musician, I seriously admire the courage to put out something like this. No piano, no drums, no guitar, no bass, just vocals.

Excellent analysis of this piece available as an episode of the Strong Songs podcast.

@Jay You don’t need to be an expert to have an opinion.

coolcoolcool

the chords are the best bit! cant you hear them?

Alecia Shepherd

@Matt Smith I have seen her live. She never used autotune back then. She would remake songs like this one live on stage, no pitch correction. Some people are merely GIFTED!

Milk chemistry

and voice effects

Honestly i always saw this song as a meme, but now actually sitting down and watching this video i realized how truly genius this piece of art is. Both this song and the visuals were ahead of its time no doubt. This is one of the best songs/videos ive ever seen. Amazing.

I found out this song because of the meme. If it wasn't for the memes maybe you would have never listen to this masterpiece

Liz

Omg exactly. Realize it’s only now I’ve listened to the whole song and I’m in shock. It’s an absolute masterpiece

@Crystal Pink Tell me you weren't around in 2007 without telling me lol.

Meme doesn't mean bad.
