Peppermint Twist
Joey Dee & The Starlighters Lyrics

Well they've got a new dance and it goes like this
(Bop shoo-op, a bop bop shoo-op)
Yeah the name of the dance is Peppermint Twist
(Bop shoo-op, a bop bop shoo-op)
Well you like it like this, the Peppermint Twist

It goes 'round and 'round, up and down
'Round and 'round, up and down
'Round and 'round and a up and down
And a one two three kick, one two three jump

Well meet me baby down at 45th street
Where the Peppermint Twisters meet
And you'll learn to do this, the Peppermint Twist

It's alright, all night, it's alright
It's okay, all day, it's okay
You'll learn to do this, the Peppermint Twist
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Ey yeah
Ey yeah
Ey yeah
Ey yeah
Ey yey yeah
Ey yey yeah
Ey yey yeah

None of you folks know what your talking about. I'm the "white boy" playing organ on this video with Joey, Roger, Dave, Sam and Wille. This was on the Dick Clark Show. And the names of the people who are listed as writers of the Peppermint Twist never wrote a thing. They stole the rights from Joey and it took many years to get redemption. This was the best version of Joey Dee and the Starliters and was ground breaking in civil rights. We all could write a book of our experiences in those years.

What you're hearing right now backing up Joey Dee would later become a little known group known as the Rascals.

Felix Cavaliere, keyboard man of the Rascals, once said in an interview that he'd been in Joey Dee & the Starliters. I assume you and he were in the group at different times?

I remember. Joey Dee (Dinicola) was a friend of my best friend's older brother, when I was in 8th grade on the "North Shore" of Milwaukee. Somehow it was arranged that Joey Dee and the Starliters played for my class of 57 kids at a private party at the Lincoln Park Pavilion, for well over an hour, in May 62' - when Peppermint Twist was hot. At one point, I walked outside with my girlfriend. The sound pouring out of the open windows was huge. We noted that we would never forget that moment.
